The Köterberg

“Wow, what a vista!” – you will say when you reach the summit of the Köterberg. About 496 metres high, the hill is the highest elevation in the Lippe highlands, providing an impressive vista with an open view all around the Weser Highlands and the Teutoburg Forest. Sixty-two villages of the states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Hesse lie within the view from the summit. The fantastic panorama extends from the Hermann monument in Detmold and the Porta Westfalica, up to the Hercules in Kassel and the Brocken in the Harz Mountains.

In the summer, the hill is a popular venue for motorcycle enthusiasts. In the winter it transforms into a small winter sports region where young and old can meet for tobogganing.

The Brothers Grimm also visited the Köterberg and learnt about the fairy tales "The Springwurzel" and "The Three Birdies".
