Obernburg ruins
The Obernburg ruins on the Schlossberg hilltop were once the seat of the Hessian Gaugrafen ("Regional Counts"), but the complex was badly damaged during the Thirty Years War and the Seven Years War. Today some parts of the walls, the substructure of the keep and the castle gate of the over 800-year-old building complex have survived. The view provides a fantastic vista over the Fritzlarer Cathedral, Borkens water tower, and across the Keller and Söhre forests. The premises have been used as space for art exhibitions since May 2006.
